1) burn or mount and install.
2) Get creative with the serial code. Letters and numbers.
3) Download DSfix 2.31 from:
http://filehorst.de/download.php?file=bwmfwkJrYes its valid I used it last night. Its not an english site so use the translator.
4) Unzip file and move all contents in the folder (not the folder itself) into the main intall area. You are in the right place if you Data.exe and DarkSouls.exe.
5) OPTIONAL: Click on DSfix.INI and DSfixInput.ini to mess around with the graphical settings and key bindings. Pretty self explanatory .
6) Copy and past contents of folder FAIR LIGHT into the install directory.
7) Adjust whatever additional settings via your GUI native control panel or what not if you are on an outdated model (SLI profile might not be avialble for old laptop users, in that case default to force alt frame method 2, if you have SLI)
Start game. First time it will start in windows mode. Go into settings and make changes as you want.
9) IMPORTANT: TURN OFF AA. Dsfix will cause probs otherwise.
10) Exit game and restart.
11) This is the hardest part. Shut your mouth and WAIT! You will see a windowed black screen which appears stuck. Leave it alone. I reinstalled it thrice freaking out over this trying all other stuff in between. Went to bed with the screen hanging and there it was... I could slap myself...
12) If things go right then the screen will eventually load (in full screen if you selected it) and should revert to your previously selected settings. Pointing out that saving indeed does work.
13) Start a game: If you did things right the game will look crisper and smoother than you remember on consoles. You can tinker further in the DSfix.ini to boost quality at your own risk!
14) Congrats, your patience and perseverance paid off. Just like the game you are about to play. Enjoy.
Optional extras:
My bet mouse and keyboard is out of the equation. This game just doesn't do it right, controllers on the other hand feel exactly like it would on console. Best option. Those that want to tough it out with PC controls or have a functional 360 controller then good luck. your instructions ended moments back.
15) If you own a playstation 3 controller or PS2 or PS1 or some USB connectible stick it in!
16) You PC should download whatever files needed. You need to head to
http://motioninjoy.en.uptodown.com/ 17) INstall the bastard and then it will take you to the driver manager screen. check on drivers available and click okay. Things should go smooth. Follow whatever proms that turn up.
18) After that
Go to the profile menu where you should see on top it reads your respective controller.
19) Click on vibrate the button at the bottom to make sure your controller responds. This should also kick the settings in default PC mode and you can crudely control the mouse and click using the stick and R1/R2 button. Ignore that and check the dropdown box above (secondlast box) that says 360 controller emulator.
20) click enable. You should then lose functionality to control your mouse with the controller. Thats fine. Start up the game and press X. It should skip ahead. Congrats now you have the most optimized way of playing a POS port of a console. But it should look better and function much better than the consoles.
Disclaimer: If delving deeper into Dsfix, read instructions carefully. Some settings might render game unplayable. Changing bindings is possible but not quite as serviceable. You are better off using default settings as they are set for a 360 controller. Even with keyboard and mouse the prompts will be for controllers. Changing controller binding settings using the Dsfixinput.ini will result in the desired effect but will not reflect in the game. IF A is for interact and you change it to Dodge the game will still show Interact but will do the action you set.
